Volunteers play an active role on the development of the profession in South-Africa and are the lifeblood of ASSA. There are significant benefits for the volunteer and the professions.

Why Volunteer?

Volunteers play an active role in the development of the actuarial profession in South Africa. Below is some of the reasons why you should consider to volunteer with ASSA:

To gain continuous professional development.
To make a contribution to their profession.
To gain wider skills and experience.
To build a network of actuarial colleagues.
To work with leaders in the profession.
To gain other perspectives on work issues and share knowledge.
To influence positively the profession’s reputation.

Volunteer Opportunities

The Society presents several opportunities to get involved as a Volunteer.
These include:

Serving on a board, committee or working group
Involvement in the Practice Areas and new development for the profession
Participate in various research opportunities
Involvement and participation with Education development; courses and exams
Contribute to development of course material, exam papers and other material required within Education
Assist as a Supervisor or Assessor for the Work Based Learning programme
Participation in ad hoc projects and growth opportunities as advertised from time to time

All volunteers must take note of the Code of Practice that provides guidance to those working with volunteers to ensure a framework of good practice.

Invoice Template

Approved honoraria payments are in place for some volunteer work. If payment is due at the end of the assignment please submit an Invoice to ASSA. You may use your own template as well.

Declaration Form

All volunteers that submit invoices for payment based on approved honoraria payment rates, must ensure ASSA finance has a completed Declaration form as well as proof of bank account.
