IFoA Examinations Formulae and Tables – September 2026

Candidates registered for the 2^nd semester IFoA outsourced examinations are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the guidelines regarding the use of the 2025 Formulae and Tables books (Red books). Access to the Formulae and Tables is provided via the IFoA examination platform, and candidates must strictly adhere to the ASSA guidelines below regarding access and use. Personal hard copies are not permitted, and candidates are responsible for ensuring they are familiar with how to access these materials on the platform ahead of the examination.

CS1 Candidates

For candidates writing CS1, all candidates will have access to the full 2025 Formulae & Tables via the IFoA examination platform. In addition, candidates writing at a venue will be provided with a printed copy on the day of the examination (this will be a printout and not a bound book). Candidates are not permitted to bring their own copies into the examination, and all printed copies will be collected at the end of the examination.

Remote candidates will access a non-downloadable version via the IFoA examination platform only. Candidates are not permitted to bring their own copies into the examination (no physical copies will be permitted).

CM2 Candidates

For candidates writing CM2, all candidates will have access to the full 2025 Formulae & Tables via the IFoA examination platform, and relevant extracts from the Formulae and Tables book will also be included within the exam paper.

Venue-based candidates will be provided with a printed copy (this will be a printout and not a bound book), which will be collected after the examination, while remote candidates will access a non-downloadable version via the IFoA examination platform only. As with CS1, candidates may not bring their own copies into the examination.

Other IFoA Subjects

For all other IFoA subjects, candidates will have access to the full 2025 Formulae & Tables via the IFoA examination platform, where required. No physical copies will be permitted for these subjects.

Note on ASSA-administered Examinations

The basis on which Formulae & Tables are made available for ASSA examinations remains unchanged.

Candidates are not permitted to bring physical copies of the Formulae & Tables into any ASSA examination (venue or remote).

Remote candidates will use a non-downloadable digital version within the examination platform.
Venue-based candidates will be provided with a hard copy at the venue and will also have access to the non-downloadable digital version within the examination platform. All hard copies will be collected at the end of examination.

Reminder

Please note that the following subjects – A111, A112, A113, A212, A214, and F106 – are co ordinated by the IFoA. All candidates must follow IFoA policies, procedures, and exam instructions, as these differ from ASSA processes. The IFoA exam offering must not be confused with ASSA’s. In particular:

Do not access the ASSA examination platform or the ASSA online proctoring system. Candidates must use only the IFoA examination platform, as instructed by the IFoA.
No Opt-Out option is available for the IFoA administered exam subjects.

The IFoA will send you joining instructions to assist with your preparation for the second semester examination. These instructions contain essential details about your exam setup and requirements. Please ensure you read them thoroughly before your exam date.

Exam Start Time

Your exam start time is aligned with South African Standard Time (SAST). While IFoA exams in the UK begin at 09:00 British Summer Time, your exam will start at 10:00 SAST.
