Professional Conduct

Disciplinary Procedure

The Disciplinary Procedure outlines the steps to be followed in the event of a complaint about the unprofessional or unacceptable conduct by a member of the Actuarial Society. Members are expected to whistle blow suspected professional misconduct when they become aware of this.

Standards and Advisory Notes

Standards of Actuarial Practice (SAPs) and Advisory Practice Notes (APNs) are practice area specific standards and advisory notes. These are issued by Council to assist members in carrying out their professional responsibilities.

The Peer Review Process provides guidance and information on principles of Peer Reviewing.

The Public Interest Information Note provides information to consider when dealing with issues with public interest implications.

Code of Conduct – Who to Contact

With a lot of market abuse and corporate scandals in SA the last year we just wanted to remind members of the requirements of the Code of Conduct, including that any member who becomes aware of a prima facie contravention of the Code must report it to the Society.

Should you wish to lodge a complaint against a member of the Society, be uncomfortable with a situation you are finding yourself in or you want a sounding board on a professional issue, please contact the Office. Imran Mahomed – – will either be able to assist or will refer you to the relevant person for guidance and advice.

Professional promise

The principles of professionalism are based on three pillars:

Application of specialist and up-to-date knowledge and expertise

Professional accountability to the Society
