WIM ELS MEMORIAL FUND

Wim Els served the Actuarial Society of South Africa with distinction from 1 June 1996 until his untimely death on 24 May 2021. Through this time, he showed an unyielding passion to serving the Society and the profession. He served all members of the Society – from the most venerated Fellow to the most junior struggling student – with equal respect. In addition, he actively worked to position ASSA on the global actuarial stage.

Through his work with the Actuarial Society Academy (ASA) and the Actuarial Society Education Trust (ASET), Wim was able to combine his passion for the transformation of both ASSA and South Africa with his commitment to serving ASSA and its members.

As a tribute to Wim, please consider adding a donation to your registration. You will find the option to donate as you complete the registration form and the donation will be added to your invoice.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

Participation in the Actuarial Society’s Convention can count toward a member’s CPD requirements.

The outcomes-based CPD system focusses on personal growth rather than compliance. It is therefore key to study the Convention programme beforehand to choose sessions which will be useful to your personal development plan. The thrust of outcomes-based CPD is to develop yourself by identifying areas of need, acquiring these new capabilities, and then incorporating and honing them in your practice.

Please visit the Society’s website for further information on the CPD scheme:
