Costa Economou’s career exemplifies dedication, expertise, and transformative leadership within the financial and actuarial sectors. As Chief Executive Officer of Colourfield Liability Solutions, Costa has been instrumental in driving strategic business development, managing talent effectively, and nurturing strong client and public relations. His professional journey is characterized by visionary leadership and profound expertise.
Costa assumed the prestigious position of President of the Actuarial Society of South Africa, starting on January 1, 2024. He also serves as a Non-Executive Director at Standard Insurance Limited and Federated Employers Mutual Assurance.
Costa holds a BSc in Actuarial Science and a BSc (Honours) in Mathematical Statistics. He is a Fellow of both the Institute of Actuaries and the Actuarial Society of South Africa. He further enhanced his financial expertise with an MBA (Honours) in Finance and Economics from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Additionally, he is a CFA Charter Holder, CAIA Charter Holder, and has also earned accreditations in Quantitative Finance through the CQF Institute and in ESG Investing through the CFA Institute.
Costa’s career began with pivotal roles as a statutory actuary, investment advisor, and consultant to major institutional retirement funds. He later became an Executive Director at Alexander Forbes Financial Services, where he spearheaded business development, special projects, group innovation, and strategy.
Appointed by the President of South Africa to the Independent Commission for the Remuneration of Public Office Bearers from 2011 to 2016, Costa has significantly contributed to public service. He has also chaired the Retirement Matters Committee of the Actuarial Society of South Africa, further solidifying his leadership in the field.
With 18 years of experience at Alexander Forbes Financial Services and 14.5 years at Colourfield, Costa Economou’s career is marked by unwavering commitment to excellence, innovation, and leadership in the actuarial profession.
