No longer is it something that only happens far away. With the recent ransomware attacks, cyber risk is becoming understood as a real and personal threat that we face everyday. Organisations are now expected to safeguard their customers and employees from cyber crime, or face financial ruin.
Speaker and cyber risk expert, Riekie Gordon, will discuss how companies can respond to cyber risk, using current examples in the industry. Managing second-order effects like reputational risk will also be covered. Finally, Riekie will talk about the expected future developments in this area, including the use of cyber insurance products to mitigate the increased risk in this area.
Last year’s introduction of the techstars session was so well received that we’re doing it again. The world is changing rapidly, things are happening fast, and small companies can become quite significant very fast. New technologies and products can’t be ignored. Leverage the change they bring: there are opportunities too big to miss out on, and risks too big not to mitigate. In this session the selected technology start-up companies will present their products. Join us at 01:15 PM on Tuesday, 17 October in Gallagher Room for this innovative session.
Suzette Vogelsang from the FSB will provide a regulatory update. This is a particularly relevant topic given the backdrop of the key changes in legislation expected in 2017, as well as changes in the way financial services will be regulated going forward.
Jeremy Gardiner from Investec will update us on the state of the economy. Jeremy is a well-known speaker and commentator on global and domestic markets, renowned for his ability to make sense of what is happening in the world and highlighting its relevance in the South African context.
