Transformation
Transformation of the actuarial profession falls within the scope of activities of the Human Resources Board.
Soshan Soobramoney chairs the Transformation Committee, a committee of the Human Resources Board. The Committee focuses on targets for transformation and methods of reaching these targets. These methods include promoting the profession among previously disadvantaged communities.
Transformation Charter
At the 2007 Annual General Meeting, members of the Actuarial Society adopted a charter for the transformation of the organisation.

Actuaries on the Move
In addition to the Transformation Charter and activities of the Human Resources Board, the Actuarial Society has been operating a joint venture with Metropolitan Life since 2001. Called Actuaries on the Move, this initiative provides intensive extra tuition in Mathematics, Science, English, computer skills, life skills and study skills to talented learners in Black townships. Grade 10 learners write an entry examination, after which they may be allowed to join the programme. For most of their Grade 11 and 12 years, they do not have free time - Saturdays and holidays belong to Actuaries on the Move. For more details, see the sub-page. Results have been excellent, and students from this programme have consistently been among the top five performers in Mathematics and Science in their provinces.
ASABA
The Actuarial Society is the professional organisation to which actuaries and actuarial students in South Africa belong. The Association of South African Black Professionals, ASABA, was established through the endeavours of, inter alia, Themba Gamedze, Ranthi Mothapo, Greg Lugisani and Zinhle Hlatswayo. ASABA and the Actuarial Society operate in an atmosphere of co-operation, with an ASABA Observer attending Actuarial Society Council meetings and an Actuarial Society Observer attending meetings of the ASABA Executive. It should be noted that ASABA membership is, like that of the Actuarial Society, open to people of all races.
ASABA had a gala dinner in Sandton on 7 March 2008. The guest speaker was then President Thabo Mbeki, whose speech has been linked to this paragraph.
