South African Education Overview
South African Actuarial Qualification
The Actuarial Society of South Africa Council decided to develop an actuarial qualification that is based on local conditions, as well as regulatory and legislative requirements, but has international recognition. Students will obtain an internationally recognised qualification offered by the Actuarial Society of South Africa from 2010 onwards.
A Task Team, chaired by Andrew Gladwin and comprising a number of academics and other stakeholders, was responsible for launching the process.
The work of the Task Team culminated in the establishment of the Actuarial Society of South Africa Education and Continuing Professional Development (ECPD) Board. This Board comprises various subcommittees, which will be responsible for curriculum development, accreditation, quality assurance, professional skills, CPD, admissions, research and member consultation.
Peter Temple has been appointed as Chairman of the ECPD Board, and Steve Handler and Bill Haslam as Deputy Chairmen.
The Actuarial Society of South Africa Board of Examiners is chaired by Emile Stipp.
Information around the timetable, logistics, contact details, examination/course registrations is provided in the Student Handbook
Detailed information on subject content is reflected in the Curriculum of the South African Actuarial Qualification.
