President’s Award
The President’s Prize
This cash award, subsidised by General and Cologne Re, is made annually. Initially, the objective was to encourage members, in particular the younger ones, to write papers. As such, it would recognise the paper considered by the President to be the most meritorious one. Various Presidents have, however, exercised their right of presidential discretion and gave recognition where they felt it was due. In 2000, Council adopted a proposal by the Research Committee to the effect that the award should only recognise excellent service to the profession, since other awards for papers had been introduced. A creative presidential interpretation of the criteria for the award may still, however, crop up one of these days.
