Healthcare Committee
Committee Overview
The healthcare practice committee serves the profession through its volunteer members. The committee’s purpose is to support actuaries and actuarial students practising in healthcare and improve the contribution of actuaries to the field.
Many activities of the committee serve to further the understanding of healthcare issues through the regular hosting of CPD events, participation in the development and maintenance of professional education materials to assist students in their preparations for the South African Health and Care Specialist Applications exams, and by publishing professional guidance notes on pertinent areas of practice. The committee also maintains a research watch of relevant topics and communicates regularly with its members regarding issues in the healthcare field.
Strong links are maintained with overseas actuarial bodies and health sub-committees. The committee also ensures that the broader profession is kept abreast of healthcare and healthcare policy related issues, which is done in part by the publication of public policy submissions, as well as involvement in task forces appointed by the profession.
The 300 series Professional Guidance Notes relates directly to the work of the Healthcare Committee.
