Awards
At the Annual Convention Dinner, the Society presents awards to its members in recognition of their professional contributions in various fields. These awards include the Murray Medal, the President’s Prize, the Swiss Re Award, the RGA Prize for Best Paper at the Convention, the RGA Prize for the Best First-time Paper and the RGA Prize for the Best Paper Published in a Journal.
Apart from the Discovery Prize for the Best Honours Project, the research prizes are presented at the annual convention of the Society. The adjudication for these prizes is undertaken by an Adjudication Panel of at least five persons comprising the members of the Research Committee who are not authors of the papers under consideration and other persons invited by the Research Committee so as to achieve a balance, both in terms of fields of interest and scholarly experience. Prizewinners are notified confidentially before the convention of their awards and advised to attend the convention.
The Murray Medal may also be granted for research. If the award recognises excellence in a paper, at least 75% of Council must agree to its being made. Where excellence of service is to be recognised, 100% support by Council is required.
