Investments Committee

The Investments Committee of the Actuarial Society of South Africa advises Council and informs the Society's membership on matters relevant to investment actuaries in South Africa. Key stakeholders include the Association for Savings and Investment South Africa (ASISA), the CFA Institute South Africa and FTSE/JSE, and the committee's views are also presented to the SA policymaker and regulators. The committee serves members by hosting CPD events, supporting the Society's education efforts, and promoting investment-related research.

Staying informed

  • ASISA: The committee is kept informed of the main issues being discussed at ASISA and other industry bodies, relating to the work of SA actuaries.
  • CFA Institute: The committee is kept informed of CFA Institute news and events, and a healthy relationship is maintained between the Society and CFA Institute SA.
  • FTSE/JSE: The committee is kept informed of all FTSE/JSE developments and the committee's views are represented at the FTSE/JSE Index Committee.
  • Markets: The committee is kept informed of all significant economic and market developments that could impact on the work of SA actuaries.
  • Regulations: The committee is kept informed of all significant regulatory changes and the committee's views are presented to the policymaker and regulators.

 Serving the members

  • Communication: The broader membership of the Actuarial Society is kept informed regularly of the main issues being discussed at the Investments Committee.
  • CPD & Events: the CPD needs of the broader memberhip are served, for example by the regular hosting of investment-related sesional meetings.
  • Education: The Actuarial Society's education efforts are properly supported, for example by the review of educational and examination material.
  • Research: The committee is kept informed of relevant research, and research efforts are properly supported via the ASSA Research Committee.
  • Society: The interest of the committee are represented on ASSA Council, FAB, LAC and RMC, and the committee is kept informed of issues of mutual interest or concern.
