Professionalism and Associate Professionalism courses
Professionalism courses
Professionalism is a key aspect of our membership. Members are required to attend courses or events at several points during their training and as qualified actuaries must understand what this means to them.
Two-day Fellowship Professionalism Courses
(Newly qualified Fellows only)
All newly qualified Fellows are required to attend a Professionalism Course within twelve months of admission as a Fellow. The course lasts two days and consists of lectures, group discussions and case studies. Not only does the course prepare you for some of the problems that you will meet in your professional life but, more importantly, it will alert you to the existence of those problems. Additionally, the membership of each course is deliberately arranged so that those attending come from a variety of working backgrounds.
Please note that attendance at these courses is by invitation only but once you have received an invitation you can apply to attend straight away. You do not have to wait until your transfer to Class of Fellow has been confirmed.
The next Fellowship Professionalism Course will be on the 10/11 September 2009 in Cape Town.
One-day Associate Professionalism Courses
(Newly qualified Associates only)
All students who complied with the criteria to enroll for the class of Associate actuaries are required to attend a one day Associate Professionalism course.
The dates scheduled for this course the 18th November 2009 in City.
Registration forms will be posted on this web page closer to the time.
Two day Applied Enterprise Risk Management course (C100)
The attendance of the course is compulsory for a member to obtain the CERA designation. The course provides students with exposure to more in-depth practical aspects of Enterprise Risk Management than are provided in the F106 course (which focuses more on principles).
The course consists of lectures, group discussions and case studies. Not only does the course prepare you for some of the problems that may be encountered in practice, but also alerts you to the existence of those problems.
There is no formal assessment during the course, but active participation is expected from all attendees. Pre-reading will be circulated prior to the course and it is essential that all attendees are familiar with this content. Successful completion of the A301 course before attending this application course is highly recommended. The course leader will need to sign-off that a student has completed the course, and this sign-off will be withheld for students who provide little evidence of active participation.
Application forms will be circulated via Society e-mail. Students must register for the course before the specified closing date.
