How to become a Student Member of the Actuarial Society of South Africa.

Actuarial Society Membership/Student Application:

In order for you to enter for exams or apply for exemptions you need to first apply for student membership of the Actuarial Society of South Africa.

Please read the following instructions carefully:
Please note the following when completing your application form:
Application forms must be completed in BLACK INK.
All fields should be completed.
Incomplete application forms will not be processed and will cause delays.
Transcripts must be originals (NO CERTIFIED COPIES WILL BE ACCEPTED).

Applications for admission from students who have studied at universities accredited by the Actuarial Society need to include a recommendation from the university’s Accreditation Actuary (by way of his/her signature as a referee on the (downloaded) application form), as follows:

Univ. of Cape Town – Ms Shivani Ramjee
Univ. of Stellenbosch – Prof Garrett Slattery
Univ. of Pretoria – Prof Rinus du Plessis
Univ. of the Witwatersrand – Prof Stephen Jurisich
Univ. of the Free State  – Mr Frans Koning
North-West University (Potchefstroom Campus) – Mr Robert Maxwell

Students from non-accredited universities do not need a recommendation from an Accreditation Actuary. Upon receipt by the Actuarial Society all such applications will be sent to the Convenor of the Society’s Admissions Committee for consideration.

Documents required to be submitted

• Certified copy of ID document
• Certified copy of NSC/Matriculation results
• Original  university academic transcripts
Students intending to write the examination in September 2012 must submit their documents on or before 22 June 2012. We cannot guarantee that applications received after this date will be processed in time for candidates to write in September 2012.


Documents to be sent via speed post or courier service. Please do not send via registered mail.
