CHARTERED ENTERPRISE RISK ACTUARY (CERA)
Discussions at IAA level led to the establishment of a group of organisations that were interested in formalising enterprise risk management education for actuaries. In 2009, the Actuarial Society was one of fourteen organisations that signed the global CERA treaty. When it received award signatory status, the Society became the fourth actuarial organisation in the world with the power to award the Chartered Enterprise Risk Actuary (CERA) designation.
The CERA credential is the most comprehensive and rigorous enterprise risk management (ERM) qualification available and extends the analytical business skills traditionally applied by actuaries to the field of enterprise risk management. It is recognised globally.
CERA aims to address the urgent global need for actuaries that are highly qualified in risk management. According to the Society of Actuaries in the US, the CERA credential reflects the actuary’s evolution – from helping the world better understand risk to leading an organisation’s risk strategies using the framework of ERM.
The CERA qualification has been incorporated in the Society’s education curriculum. This process was guided, inter alia, by research done in Australia and the United Kingdom. Members who have reached Associate or Fellow membership status may enter for the examinations, which include a two day seminar.
