Education Board

The Governance structure for Actuarial Education in South Africa is the Education Board. The Board is accountable to the Council of the Actuarial Society of South Africa.

Mandate/Objectives: The Board will be accountable to Council for the development and maintenance of a world class education system offered by the Society to its members, covering both pre and post qualification requirements, and for ensuring that the education system on offer remains relevant to the changing needs of the profession. In particular, it is accountable for:

• The development and maintenance of relevant and appropriate curricula.
• Provision of appropriate tutorial support for students doing examinations that are not outsourced to universities.
• Ensuring quality assurance of all aspects of the education process.
• The development & implementation of an examination and student record administration system (in conjunction with the Director of Operations).
• Examination planning and execution.
• Accreditation of universities and the monitoring of standards.
• Liaison with IAA and other relevant overseas professional bodies on education matters.
• Establishment and maintenance of Mutual Recognition Agreements as approved by Council.
• Ensuring appropriate post qualification professional development opportunities and, in particular, the maintenance of the Society’s CPD"(Continuous Professional Development)"framework, and monitoring the availability of appropriate CPD opportunities for members.
• Liaison with local key education stakeholders, including regulatory authorities, students, employers and universities.
• The overall education budget of the Society including recommending fees and other charges related to educational activities, via the Operations & Finance Board, to Council for approval.
